Trainee Project Manager
Jade started her career with harrisonJorge just over a year ago as a Document Controller based at our Cannon Street project. She then moved to Hampstead Green Place where she switched to Trainee Project Manager. She is really enjoying the variety of work and has already tried her hand at drywall, tiling and flooring! Next up are doors and joinery! Read her journey below.
Growing up I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I went from wanting to be a vet to a lawyer, before eventually deciding that I wanted to follow in my Dad’s footsteps and become a project manager. I chose construction because I knew (from my Dad) that no two days would be the same and I was interested in it, which makes it easier to learn. In the future, I also want to build my own house so everything I am learning will help.
As I was new to the industry, starting out as a Document Controller was the best thing for me as it meant I could learn the complete basics of construction. Once I had grasped these I knew I wanted to move up a level to Trainee Project Manager. The transition has not been difficult as I had spent time out on site when I was a Document Controller so I knew what to expect.
Learning new things every day. Setting my own goals which I then achieve is really satisfying.
I was attracted to work for harrisonJorge because of the opportunities that were offered to me in my interview and they have been followed through on. For example, I have recently been enrolled on an HNC in Construction. harrisonJorge is also a company that was willing to take me on with no experience and give me the chance I was looking for so I am grabbing that with both hands.
Building my very own wall (well half a wall!). I spent the day out on site building a drywall partition from scratch for our temporary offices that were being constructed, with some help from one of our fixers. That was a massive achievement for me considering I had only been with the company for about 6 months and had absolutely zero experience. I just remembered everything I was learning from my managers and all I had observed from the fixers and out of that came the wall!
I can honestly say that I enjoy my job. Some days I find challenging but I am really lucky to have a very supportive and knowledgeable team around me that help me when I am struggling with things. The training opportunities are brilliant. I have also been lucky to work for both the fit-out and drywall companies under the Adparo Group (fireclad is our sister company) so every day I get to work with new people who have helped to develop my people skills as well as making me a stronger character.
My favourite subject at school was photography. I enjoyed being creative and taking photos of different things.
Work hard, take advantage of all the opportunities that will be given to you and always aim high.

It's great that you are able to cross over the different companies to gain a wider range of experience – that’s invaluable to me as it really focuses your mind.
